Parole

Parole is a way of letting a prisoner serve part of their sentence in the community.

Parole allows a prisoner to benefit from being supported in the community whilst being subject to strict parole conditions, instead of going back into society at the end of their sentence without any support or restrictions.

Granting a prisoner the opportunity to engage in parole may offer more protection to the community in the long-term rather than the prisoner's release at the end of their sentence not having engaged in any community supervision.
