Victim Notifications

Please note - Owing to privacy restrictions imposed via the Sentence Administration Act 2003 (WA), the Board is unable to reveal any information pertaining to any prisoner, such as a Board decision, to any member of the public including victims.

The Victim Notification Register

The Victim Notification Register is the agency responsible for providing information to victims about the Court and correctional management of an offender once the offender is under the supervision of the Department, including parolees.

The Victim Notification Register is the ongoing link between the justice system and a victim of crime (if the person who offended against them is serving a term of imprisonment).

It is the role of the Victim Notification Register to notify victims of a parole decision (not the Board). A victim will only be notified of a decision if they are registered with the Victim Notification Register.

Upon registration, and pursuant to the Victims of Crime Act 1994, victims may request to be informed about specific prisoner details, such as a future Board hearing or Board decision regarding the prisoner or parolee.

Information from the Victim Notification Register is not automatically received by victims of crime. Some victims do not want to receive specific information about the offender once they are imprisoned. If a victim of crime does want to receive information, they must register with the Victim Notification Register. Victims are notified either by telephone or in writing (mail or email) of any changes to a prisoner or parolee’s circumstances, usually within five days of that change occurring.

Personal information about the prisoner or parolee is not available to victims.

When a Prisoner is Released on Parole

Upon the release of a prisoner to parole, the Victim Notification Register can provide victims with information about the location of the Adult Community Corrections Centre where the parolee will be required to report for their period of supervision. They will also advise of any conditions of parole relevant to the victim.
