Board Membership

The Board consists of a Chairperson, Deputy Chairpersons, Community Members and Department of Justice and Western Australia Police Representatives. Under section 103(1) of the Sentence Administration Act 2003 (WA), the members of the Board are as follows:

  • A Chairperson - nominated by the Minister and appointed by the Governor;
  • Deputy Chairpersons - nominated by the Minister and appointed by the Governor;
  • Community Members - nominated by the Minister and appointed by the Governor;
  • Representatives from the Department of Justice including Corrective Services and representatives of the Commissioner for Victims of Crime; and
  • Representatives from the West Australian Police - appointed by the Commissioner of Police.

Periodic recruitment of Board members in line with the policies established within the State Government Boards and Committees - Premier’s Circular 2023/02 ensures the Board continues to deliver a high standard of decision making.

Under section 103(4)(a) and (b) of the Sentence Administration Act 2003 (WA), Community Members appointed to the Board must make unbiased and reasonable assessments of risk. Community Members come from diverse backgrounds. They must also have knowledge and understanding of one or more of the following:

  • The impact of offences on victims;
  • Aboriginal culture local to this State;
  • A range of cultures among Australians;
  • The criminal justice system; and/or
  • Community issues, including employment, substance abuse, physical or mental illness or disability, accommodation, education or training.

The Board is supported by a team of administrative staff provided by the Department of Justice.
